Concerts

Lance Pierson, Belinda Yates and Heather Chamberlain

Lance has formed a trio with singer Belinda Yates and pianist Heather Chamberlain. Together they aim to create concerts which combine music with poetry. They met in 2008 during the celebrations of John Milton's 400th anniversary. The idea was born then to combine Milton’s poems with the great music which his words had inspired.

Belinda Yates studied at The Royal College of Music. She has performed in concert recitals and recordings around the world. Her great love is the magic of direct communication with her audience.

John Milton in Voice and Verse

John Milton in Voice and Verse

John Milton (1608-1674) is arguably England's second greatest poet after Shakespeare. He was an outspoken protestant and Republican, serving in Cromwell's commonwealth government. He wrote some of his greatest poetry after going blind.

in voice Soprano Belinda Yates, accompanied by Heather Chamberlain, sings a selection of songs inspired by Milton’s poems. Including pieces by George Frideric Handel, Franz Joseph Haydn, Thomas Arne, Henry Lawes, Geoffrey Shaw and Gerald Finzi.

and verse Actor Lance Pierson brings Milton’s poems to life. He performs extracts that set Belinda’s songs in their context. As well as selections from Paradise Lost, Samson Agonistes and the Sonnets, they will give shortened concert performances of Il Penseroso, L’Allegro and the masque Comus.
